Chinese mobiles major Gionee, ranked number two in China selling 23
million units annually entered Indian market today with the first launch
of four smart phone models and three feature phone models in Chandigarh

Gionee which operates its overseas business through
Syntech Technology Limited has set up its subsidiary Syntech Technology
Private Limited. Director of the company, Arvind R.Vohra told media
persons at the launch function here today that after Chandigarh, these
mobiles would be launched in other cities in western, eastern and
southern zones. He said that north India accounted for about 30 per cent
of total market in the country which made the company announce forays
from Chandigarh.
Vohra said that Gpad-G1 Android phone launched
today has unmatched features like 8 mega pixel camera, five inches
display screen with multi-touch interface, dual core processor, dual
sim, dual standby, a large battery to provide "an exceptionally" lasting
talk time. He said that as an inaugural offer, the mobile phone was
being offered at an affordable price of Rs 10,999, with a free 8 GB
memory card and a flip cover.

At
a basic level, it is a content aggregator, drawing from multiple

sources, with more than 1,500 on offer. You'll find the likes of UEFA in

HTC promised to kick-off a new sound and camera experience in the HTC One and that means the birth of Boomsound.Find the best iPhone headset
for you Yes, it's a silly name and something we probably won't add to
our vernacular in hurry, but it means that HTC has focused on improving
the speaker performance of the HTC One.
To achieve this, HTC has
carved out space for stereo front-facing speakers, so they fire
directly towards you from behind their signature micro-drilled grills.
HTC is claiming they have the largest chamber of any phone. We put them
to the test and they are pretty loud, although we didn't have the chance
to test them extensively enough to determine whether they'll make a
huge difference.
Of course you get Beats Audio in the mix,A lanyard

been on recent HTC devices, although you don't get Beats headphones in
the box.
But speakers aren't the only thing that HTC has
targeted. HTC is claiming that sound capture is better too, thanks to
its using dual membranes on both mics, so your voice should sound better
and video capture sound better too.
In addition, there's an
extra clever feature coupled to the noise cancellation system in
calling: when in a noisy environment, the phone will turn up the volume
of the speaker so you can hear the caller without having to scrabble for
the volume rocker.
On the entertainment front, HTC will now not
only draw down the artwork for your music, which it has always done,
but will also give you a visualisation mode, with lyrics, so you can
sing along to your favourite tracks.

"We wanted flying cars. Instead we got 140 characters,” says Peter
Thiel, the co-founder of PayPal and an early investor in Facebook. Thiel
made billions from PayPal and Facebook, but he says the pace of
innovation in the broader world has slowed way down.
Is Thiel right? The answer depends on whether you mean innovation in the world of atoms (physical things) or innovation in the world of bits (software).
The cellphone was the size of a brick 30 years ago. Six years ago it was much lighter, though still mainly a phone. Today it’s a camera, radio, television, credit card and disease diagnostic tool.
The most fertile areas for innova-tion become clear in this atoms versus bits view. If the atom world is slow to change, how can bits replace atoms or change the way we use them? News- papers have transitioned from atoms to bits.Online shopping for luggage tag from a great selection of Clothing. Trickier are classrooms and health diagnostics, but they’re
moving, too. Finally, bits will never replace such things as cars or airplanes, but they’ll change the way we use those things.
I predict that 50 percent of colleges will fail during the next decade. The high return on investment that a diploma once guaranteed is no longer certain. Employers now have other and cheaper ways to test intelligence and drive.
Online education got serious in 2012. Two open-enrollment online colleges—Coursera and Udacity—each raised more than $10 million in venture capital.A lanyard may refer to a rope or cord worn around the neck or wrist to carry an object. Coursera plans to make money by selling certi?cates for around $100, verifying course completion. If you can earn a certi?cate for completing an arti?cial intelligence class taught by a Stanford professor, where does that leave the math professor at the under-funded liberal arts college?
A second, less noticed kind of edu-cation revolution is aimed at replac- ing traditional corporate training. The Apollo Group, which owns the University of Phoenix, has made a big bet to create the Innovator’s Accelera- tor and has signed up noted Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen and others to teach cor- porate teams how to become more innovative. I was allowed a sneak peek at Innovator’s Accelerator; it looks like something George Lucas would have cooked up had he turned his creative talents to education. The Innovator’s Accelerator will soon change the $50 billion corporate training market.
A third way bits can transform atoms is to change the way we con- sume and value atoms. An example in air travel is XOJet, which has made private-jet travel cheaper.
XOJet,Our premium collection of quality personalized keychains generously offers affordability in a custom keychain. owned by Texas Paci?c Group (TPG), was able to use Group’s credit to buy scores of late-model jets on the cheap after the ?nancial crisis. XOJet’s chief, Blair LaCorte, then imported strategies and tactics from two other businesses owned wholly or in part by TPG: Low-cost air carrier Ryanair and resorts operator Harrah’s.
“We got people to think of private jets as nice hotel rooms to rent, not resort homes to fractionally own,” LaCorte says. XOJet owns 75 jets but has only three types: The Challenger 300, the Hawker 800XP and the Ci- tation X. “We know how to maintain these three types,” he says. That’s crucial, because XOJet gets 1,200 annual hours of use from each jet, as opposed to 600 hours for the average fractional jet and 250 hours for the average privately owned jet.
XOJet’s volume means that you can rent a Challenger to go from Van Nuys, California, to Teterboro, New Jersey, for as low as $23,000. The more custom your needs, the more the price will go up. But thanks to the internet and some clever analytics, XOJet is able to price each request, offer a smart deal and make money. Yes, it’s still a jet, but bits have trans-formed how the jet is being used.

Why the Milwaukee Brewers Are Underrated Heading
Regaining my composure, I called my friend, who told me to pass the
phone to my kidnappers. However, I soon lost this vital link to the
outside world: About three minutes in, my phone ran out of credit.
Whether as a result of the conversation or their independent decision,
the tribesmen decided to take me to meet a local military official in a
location that, unfortunately, was outside of my cell phone carrier's
coverage. After remaining calm as I spent what felt like an eternity,
but was probably about 15 minutes, screaming about my lack of service,
the army guy, who had been in contact with my friend, passed me his
phone.
The sheikh, my friend relayed, was currently in a meeting, but he gave his assurance that I'd be released in a few hours. Until then, the military official would host me at his home -- a euphemism, I soon discovered, for the fact that I'd spend the evening chewing qat with half the village,Find the best iPhone headset for you my kidnappers included. It took about an hour for me to realize that there was something kind of odd about a military officer mediating a kidnapping.
I settled in,Our premium collection of quality personalized keychains generously offers affordability in a custom keychain. as relaxed as I was ever going to get given the circumstances. My kidnappers were rather welcoming, stressing that they saw me as a guest rather than a hostage. I didn't have cell coverage, but my portable modem worked, which allowed me to keep tabs on my Google news feeds to make sure news of my predicament hadn't hit the media. Until the publication of this article, I don't believe it has.
For the next two hours, my kidnappers and their kinsmen issued a litany of complaints and requests in the hopes that I'd pass them on to my contacts when I got back to Sanaa. Gas, they grumbled, is too expensive and often difficult to find. Jobs are scarce, they said, and government services are nearly absent.
"Why don't foreign businesses and [humanitarian] organizations come here?" one tribesman asked, prompting the room to erupt in claims of the area's mineral wealth and a cataloguing of the inadequacies in education and health care. The entire district, apparently, lacks a single hospital.
"Kidnapping an American journalist might not be the best way to get foreigners to come here," I noted in English, prompting my Yemeni friend I was traveling with -- a hostage by association -- to burst out laughing, forcing us to translate what I said to the confused tribesmen, most of whom laughed as well. Generally speaking, it wasn't too different from the hundreds of social gatherings I've attended in Yemen that didn't involve me being held against my will: I may have been inconvenienced, but I certainly wasn't in any danger.
Nevertheless, I was pretty pleased when the call came through with the news that a resolution had been reached. My release was guaranteed, and the army officer would travel to Sanaa in the coming days to discuss compensation there.
Still, my kidnappers' problem was far from solved. They didn't make much of an effort to hide their disappointment. In the end, their demands were simply forced up the chain of command -- a far cry from their hope of getting urgent government attention.
"If you called the government, I would have gotten my money," one vented. My half-hearted attempt to stifle a laugh failed miserably. Can you spot the answer in the fridge magnet?
"My brother, how long have you been a Yemeni?" I retorted, prompting a few in the room to erupt in laughter. "If we left this in the government's hands, I'd be married from your village with two kids by the time I got out."
Most in the room nodded their agreement. It's a fact of life in Yemen: When it comes with dealing with an important issue, it's best to ignore the question of whom you should trust, and instead defer to whoever will actually be able to get things done. I had full faith that my friend's connections would get me out as quickly, quietly, and as safely as possible. More conventional ways of dealing with the issue never crossed my mind.
I said goodbye to my erstwhile captors, who sent me on my way, urging me to call to confirm my safety as soon as I returned to Sanaa. The ordeal was over.
In a way, what happened to me was an odd testament to the resilience of the informal conflict resolution mechanisms embedded in Yemeni society. That's not to say, of course, that the rather painless resolution of my kidnapping means that all's well here. For most citizens, having a "civil state," ultimately, just means having a government that actually works.
"Don't blame me, blame the people in Sanaa," one of my kidnappers told me, pushing back at my tongue-in-cheek suggestion, at one point, that he apologize for wasting so much of my time. "This wouldn't have happened if the government did what it was supposed to do."

It's Mine and I'm keeping it
Whether we like it or notwe are the biggest USB flash drives wholesale supplier in china., our society is driven by consumerism. Can you spot the answer in the fridge magnet?
We work hard, earn money, spend it on goodies then start the cycle all
over again. With the exception of Jack Reacher, who’s content to own
only a folding toothbrush, we all collect and value our possessions, and
we’re very keen on keeping them.
I have to admit that I bear no resemblance to Reacher – I’m not 6ft 5in tall and don’t weigh 250lb, but more importantly I have far more than a folding toothbrush to my name. Luckily I’ve never lost anything particularly valuable, but that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t appreciate the ability to protect, or at the very least retrieve my possessions if they were lost or stolen.
By lucky coincidence a case landed on my desk recently stuffed full of gadgets for protecting, tagging and tracking our ever-expanding array of possessions. The case was sent from It’s Mine Technology, which, as its name suggests, specialises in helping you keep what’s yours.
One of the key components of the It’s Mine portfolio is microchip tagging. Despite the fact that stolen or lost goods are often recovered, there’s generally no way to ascertain who those items belong to. The microchips can be read by police or lost property departments, and the original owner can be contacted and their items returned.
The microchips are tiny and come with a syringe-type applicator, allowing the user to place the chip between the seams of a bag without damaging the leather. It’s similar technology to the chips we put in our pets so that vets can identify lost or stolen animals, but there’s no need to give your Hermes Birkin a general anaesthetic before implanting.
If you’re a guitarist you won’t need to inject a chip into your instrument since It’s Mine Technology also makes sets of bridge pins with a chip already inserted into one of the pins.
You can also track your stuff with the It’s Mine Personal Tracker.Find the best iPhone headset for you Unlike the trackers you see in the movies, this is not a device the size of a pin-head. It’s about the size of a box of matches, but it is pretty cool nonetheless.
The tracker obviously employs GPS to confirm its position, and it can be tracked via an online portal. The tracker has a SIM card inside it, so it’s always transmitting its location to the Internet – oh,I personally really like these mini ear cap for my iPhone. and that SIM card also allows you to eavesdrop on whoever is in the vicinity of the tracker.
Another gadget in the It’s Mine case was the SmartTie alarm, which connects to your smartphone, tablet or any other Bluetooth device. If someone takes your device and the SmartTie loses contact with it, it will sound its 84db alarm to let you know. Then you’ve just got to figure out who’s looking guilty!
I’ll probably chip my luggage and register the items on the Immobilise site, and may even hide the GPS tracker in my car somewhere. And then I’ll hope that I never need to use any of them, because this stuff is much like a burglar alarm or an insurance policy – you feel better having it, but you hope you’ll never have to make use of it. But at least if you do have to use any of these gizmos, you’ll have a better chance of getting your kit back.
The success of one team is directly correlated to the failure of another. Watching your neighbor enjoy the spoils of victory can build resentment and turn conventional competition into something that can be charged with emotion. A rivalry can be born from jealousy, bitterness, envy or just hatred.
The passion and commitment from fans and from teams make games more interesting. The crowds can be electric and almost lift their teams to another level. Friendly banter becomes vitriol and hate. The glass and netting surrounding the ice put in place to protect the fans often seems like a necessity to protect players from the borderline lunacy in the stands.
Rivalries in sports aren't always organic. Often times there is a trigger or a singular incident that can push competition to the next level. Though I believe that most rivalries are perpetuated by a particular fanbase, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that some players just don't like each other.
It is human nature to compete, and the athletes who are at the pinnacle of their sport have reached the top because of their drive to succeed. The best of the best don't often take kindly to defeat.A chip card is a plastic card that has a computer chip implanted into it that enables the card to perform certain. Some work harder to get better, some drop their gloves and some just disappear.
As someone who used to play, I would love to have John Tortorella as my coach. I love his passion, frankness and raw emotion. Squirting fans aside, Tortorella cares about his team as much as any coach in the league.
I love that Tortorella always speaks his mind about anyone and anything at any time. I don't think that John Tortorella necessarily hates anyone in the media, but he won't pull any punches about calling someone out when he disagrees with them.
I have to admit that I bear no resemblance to Reacher – I’m not 6ft 5in tall and don’t weigh 250lb, but more importantly I have far more than a folding toothbrush to my name.

All this talk of a mansion tax is just political posturing
It is normal for politicians, when living standards are falling,We have a wide selection of drycabinets
to choose from for your storage needs. to channel the public’s
discontent towards those who can be called rich. When the cause of that
discontent is that the politicians have been unable to run a sound
budget and thus need to cut expenditure, this has the added benefit of
deflecting the public’s rage away from Westminster. It is not really
about raising money to reduce the national debt. It is about making the
public think less ill of the government, or, if a pledge made in
opposition, of the would-be government.
Last week’s call by the Labour leader Ed Miliband for a so-called mansion tax was redolent of Denis Healey’s promise,Don't make another silicone mold without these invaluable Mold Making supplies and accessories! back in 1974, to squeeze the rich “until the pips squeak”. The then Labour shadow Chancellor had also drawn up plans for a wealth tax, over and above existing income and capital gains taxes. Fifteen years later in his memoirs, Healey admitted that: “We had committed ourselves to a Wealth Tax: but in five years I found it impossible to draft one which would yield enough revenue to be worth the administrative cost.” He concluded: “You should never commit yourself in Opposition to new taxes unless you have a very good idea about how they will operate in practice.” In particular, Healey had discovered that the flight of capital would actually have resulted in a loss of revenue to the Exchequer.Online shopping for Cable Ties from a great selection of Lamps.
I somehow doubt that Miliband bothered to consult the 95 year old Labour ex-Chancellor before coming up with his own version of squeezing the rich. It was not so much a suggestion of what he would do in government as a cunning plan to exploit the divisions within the Coalition: the Liberal Democrats have long advocated what they call a “mansion tax”, but have been thwarted by David Cameron.
Just how much Clegg and Co have been thinking of this was revealed at the weekend,Willkommen im virtuellen Zuhause der Lercher Werkzeugbau GmbH. with leaked reports of an internal policy document drawn up by two of the party’s MPs, suggesting that a wealth tax should include all assets: jewellery, for example. In furtherance of this, it said: “HM Revenue and Customs, in policing the system, will have to visit homes to test whether asset values of jewellery, paintings etc., were correct.” The thought of widows being shaken down by Tax Inspectors on a jewellery hunt (“Show us yer old wedding ring, now”) was one of the things that caused Healey to back down. Not nearly as quickly, though, as Vince Cable, who, within hours of this policy document emerging, declared that the idea of jewellery and paintings being included was “wacky”.
Why is that “wacky”, but a mansion tax not so? After all, the homes that people live in are arguably more essential for their families than any item of jewellery or painting. This only demonstrates that politicians advocating a wealth tax are not really interested in the principle, but only in the noise such a policy makes – and if it seems discordant, they will drop it.
There are, in fact, some good principled – rather than political – objections to what the Liberal Democrats and Labour propose (an annual tax on properties worth more than £2m). When someone buys a property, it is out of income that has already been taxed. He will pay stamp duty on that transaction – up to 7 per cent for the most valuable houses. If he then takes on builders to improve it, he will pay an additional 20 per cent of that cost in VAT. And if he sells the property, and it is not his primary residence, he will have to pay capital gains tax of 28 per cent. Finally, there is inheritance tax at 40 per cent on estates above a threshold of £325,000 – although great Labour dynasties such as the Benns and the Milibands have used Deeds of Variation to pass property down through the family in a way that avoids the full impact of inheritance tax.Wide range of unique crystal mosaic and natural stone mosaic tiles.
The point of principle here is that tax is generally paid on property when income from it is available – for example, on rent accruing; and the reason why stamp duty works is that in the great majority of cases a person has cash available from the sale of an existing property, when buying a new one. Therefore, if there were to be an additional property tax, it would be much fairer to decide that capital gains tax should also be charged on the primary residence, when it is sold, rather than levy a tax simply on the fact that someone – whether or not a little old lady – happens to be living in a home above a certain value. Such a change, however, would affect all home owners making a profit on sale and would, therefore, not meet the politicians’ objective of seeming to be nasty only to rich bankers.
And, while we’re discussing equity in taxation, it should be noted that, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies, it is not until a standard family with two earners and two children is earning just over £25,000 that it begins to become a net payer of any income tax at all. Meanwhile, the HMRC’s own official figures show that the top 1 per cent of income earners paid 24.8 per cent of all income tax collected in 2011-2012: the same people’s earnings represented 11.2 per cent of the total. In other words, the tax system in this country is already highly progressive.

Samuel Adams to Launch Boston Lager in Cans
Samuel Adams announced today that for the first time it plans to
offer Samuel Adams Boston Lager in a can – but not just any can. The new
can design – the result of two years of ergonomic and sensory research
and testing – aims to provide a drinking experience that is closer to
the taste and comfort of drinking beer from a glass. The “Sam Can,” as
the brewers call it, will hit shelves in early summer 2013, just in time
for drinking occasions that call for the convenience of a can such as
sporting events, boating or the beach.
“The debate over bottles vs. cans has been a sticking point for brewers in the craft beer community for years,” says Jim Koch, founder and brewer of Samuel Adams. “In the past, I had my doubts about putting Sam Adams in a can because I wasn’t convinced that Boston Lager would taste as good as it does from a bottle. But cans have changed. And I believe we’ve designed a can that provides a slight but noticeably better drinking experience than the standard beer can.”
Koch and the other brewers at Samuel Adams first worked with can manufacturer Ball Corporation to understand can design, technology,Online shopping for Cable Ties from a great selection of Lamps. and how to package premium beer in cans. The brewers then worked with a design team at IDEO, a recognized global design firm, and finally enlisted the help of sensory expert, Roy Desrochers of GEI Consultants. Desrochers, a recognized beer flavor expert for the Master Brewer’s Association of the Americas (MBAA), has provided counsel to the brewing industry for almost three decades. With Desrochers’ help, Koch studied every aspect of the new can, from how it could potentially impact the flavor of Samuel Adam’s flagship Boston Lager to the ergonomics of how the beer flows from the can and hits the taste receptors on a drinker’s tongue.
“I worked with Jim and the other brewers at Sam Adams on an ergonomic and flavor study to understand the benefits of the new can,” says Desrochers. “The flared lip and wider top of the new Sam Can work in concert to deliver the beer in a way that makes the flavor closer to drinking out of a glass. Although subtle, this can delivers a more pronounced, more balanced flavor experience – something that was very important to the brewers. The extended lip of the can also creates a smoother, more comfortable overall drinking experience.”
The difference in drinking out of the new can as compared to a standard can will be modest, but drinkers should notice enhanced flavors and a more comfortable experience. The position of the can opening and wider lid, naturally opens up the mouth allowing for more air flow and positions the drinker’s nose closer to the hop aromas of the beer. A little known fact is that most of what we think we taste is actually what we smell – that’s why it’s hard to taste food with a stuffed up nose. Drinkers also noticed that the extended, curved lip of the can delivered the beer to the front of the palate to maximize the early enjoyment of the malt sweetness.
Koch’s end goal in developing a new can is to provide drinkers with the best possible Boston Lager drinking experience when they prefer the convenience of a can,Willkommen im virtuellen Zuhause der Lercher Werkzeugbau GmbH. like on the golf course or at the beach, without compromising the taste of his first and favorite beer, Samuel Adams Boston Lager. Celebrating the flavors and ingredients in Boston Lager is what also led to the development of the Samuel Adams Boston Lager Pint Glass in 2007, also the result of a lengthy research project to enhance the beer drinking experience.
“The new Sam Can required a million dollar investment in special equipment tooling along with time, research and testing.Don't make another silicone mold without these invaluable Mold Making supplies and accessories! This new can will also cost more than the standard can to produce. It may seem a little crazy to make that kind of investment, but we felt the slight improvement in the drinking experience was worth the expense. We made decisions based on the beer, not on the bottom line,” Koch explains. “We’ve done tastings here at the brewery, with Sam Adams drinkers and our experts, “and now, we’re proud to launch Samuel Adams Boston Lager in cans. We have a vessel that gives our drinkers the best tasting Samuel Adams in a can.”

Ailing Chavez returns to Venezuela from Cuba
Venezuela President Hugo Chavez returned to Venezuela early Monday
after more than two months of treatment in Cuba following cancer
surgery, his government said, triggering street celebrations by
supporters who welcomed him home while he remained out of sight at
Caracas' military hospital.
Chavez's return was announced in a series of three messages on his Twitter account, the first of them reading: "We've arrived once again in our Venezuelan homeland. Thank you, my God!! Thank you, beloved nation!! We will continue our treatment here."
They were the first messages to appear on Chavez's Twitter account since Nov. 1.
"I'm clinging to Christ and trusting in my doctors and nurses," another tweet on Chavez's account said. "Onward toward victory always!! We will live and we will triumph!!"

Chavez was re-elected to a new six-year term in October, and his inauguration, originally scheduled for Jan. 10, was indefinitely postponed by lawmakers in a decision that the Supreme Court upheld despite complaints by the opposition. Some speculated that with Chavez back, he could finally be sworn in.
Villegas said that he hadn't yet seen the president and that the government will provide updates about his condition "whether they're good or they're bad."
The vice president later presided over a televised Cabinet meeting at the presidential palace, though he didn't offer additional details about Chavez. Based on the government's accounts, doctors must have performed a tracheotomy on Chavez, cutting an opening in his windpipe to facilitate breathing, according to Dr. Jose Silva, a pulmonary specialist and president of the Venezuela Pulmonology Society. Silva said he thinks Chavez is breathing with the help of a ventilator through a tube attached to his windpipe.
Patients with breathing problems often require a tracheotomy to avoid damage to the vocal chords when a ventilator is used for an extended period.

Chavez's precise condition and the sort of cancer treatments he is undergoing remain a mystery, and speculation has grown recently that he may not be able to stay on as president.
Dr. Carlos Castro, scientific director of the Colombian League Against Cancer in Bogota, Colombia, said that given the government's accounts that Chavez is undergoing "complex" treatment, he thinks he likely will have to step down.

Child abuser gets 4 years for brain injury
A man convicted of child abuse will be going to prison, but not for as long as several people involved in the case had hoped.
Judge Elijah Smiley sentenced 24-year-old Timothy Foxworth to four years in prison, which is less than the maximum legal sentence of five years, but more than the probation requested by Foxworth’s attorney, Jan Miron.
Foxworth, who didn’t testify in his trial, expressed his remorse for the devastating brain injury his infant son suffered in November 2011, but he maintained the story he’d told since his arrest.
“For the past year and three months I haven’t been able to sleep right. I haven’t been able to think right,” Foxworth told Smiley. “It tears me apart, sir, every night.”
Foxworth insisted his son’s injuries were an accident. Emory Foxworth was less than three months old when he suffered a crushed skull while his father cared for him. Foxworth has said his son was injured when he fell out of the bathtub to a tile floor.
The doctor who performed the life-saving emergency brain surgery said his injuries were consistent with significant blunt force trauma events such as a fall from two stories or a car crash. A two- or three-foot fall wouldn’t have caused the injuries, she said.
But Miron called a biomechanist to testify that, under the circumstances Foxworth described, a short fall could have caused the injuries.
Jurors found Foxworth guilty of child abuse, a less severe charge than aggravated child abuse,The most famous china mosaic of Ancient times is in Pompeii and shows Alexander the Great. with which Foxworth originally was charged. Had jurors decided Foxworth was guilty of aggravated child abuse, which would require them to find Emory Foxworth suffered great bodily harm, he could have been sentenced to up to 30 years.
If nothing else about the case was certain, there was never any dispute that the child suffered great bodily harm, Smiley said Monday. He suffered brain damage and has not developed as a healthy child would be expected to.
Foxworth’s ex-wife Shelby Foxworth had asked Smiley to sentence her ex-husband to the full five years. She had been upset with the jury’s verdict and that he would not face the more severe penalty that would have accompanied an aggravated child abuse conviction.
Smiley said he agonized over this particular sentence and arrived at it after careful consideration.
“This court’s fidelity is to the law and the Constitution. The parties are entitled to have a neutral judge to consider their case without predisposed bias towards either side,” Smiley said. “This court has done that.”

Don't let the still babyish face fool you. When things aren't going well on the mound, Wieters will let the pitcher know. He just won't do it in front of the whole world. Wieters has made a habit of pulling a pitcher aside between innings in the walkway behind the dugout.
That sense of privacy was invaded during the AL playoffs, when a TV camera was mounted in the hallway. Funny thing is, the camera was mysteriously turned around - Showalter insists he doesn't know how - so Wieters could do his thing.
Perhaps the most notable aspect to Showalter is Wieters' manner. The catcher doesn't make it personal. And he doesn't tell the pitcher one thing and the coaches another.
"He doesn't say something to (bench coach) John (Russell) or I that he's not going to say to the player," Showalter said. "It's very seldom. He picks his spots. It's not like he's going to talk to us and not talk to them. Sometimes he talks to them before he talks to us."
Wieters handles Baltimore's pitching the staff the way he'd want to be handled himself. Though he's been pegged for stardom for years, he never acted like anything more than one of the gang.

Even coming off a season in which he won his first Gold Glove, Wieters is intent on improving. Asked by Showalter what he'd like to work on during spring training, Wieters rattled off a handful of items on his 'to-do' list.

Eagle Ford pay is high, but work can be fatal
It was Sept. 1, 2009, and Barrera and his rig crew were having
trouble in Webb County erecting and stabilizing a derrick, according to
his wife,We specializes in rapid plastic injection mould

and inspection records on file with the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, a federal agency that oversees worker safety.
“He called me and he told me that the tower was moving and he didn't want to go up it,” Hernandez recalled. “And they told him if he didn't go, he was going to lose his job. And he went.Like most of you, I'd seen the broken china mosaic decorated pieces. And then that's how he fell.”
The day after that phone call, Barrera climbed 25 feet up the derrick owned by Coastal Drilling Land Co. LLC to fix a locking pin in the metal frame. The structure began swaying. Before he could react, the derrick tipped over and crashed to the rig floor, fatally crushing him under tons of metal.
Thanks to the Eagle Ford Shale and other lucrative oil and gas fields in South Texas, thousands of oil and gas workers are finding steady jobs and fat paychecks.Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a smart card can authenticate your computer usage and data. But the boom has come at a steep cost.
Since 2009, at least 11 employees working for drilling companies and spinoff industries in Eagle Ford Shale counties have suffered horrific deaths that could have been prevented, according to OSHA investigations obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
The files show federal inspectors found safety violations at the site of every fatality, and often concluded that companies hadn't taken adequate steps to keep their workers safe.
“For a lot of employers out there, they make a real effort,” said Michael Rivera, area director for OSHA's Corpus Christi office, which monitors most of the Eagle Ford Shale region south of San Antonio.
“I see a lot of good people working hard to keep things safe,With superior quality photometers, light meters and a number of other solar light products.” Rivera said. “That being said, there are those who just don't. There are those who kind of hurry, maybe take a shortcut. Not to hurt anybody or kill anybody. But time is money, right?”
Most of the Eagle Ford accidents occurred at rig sites in a handful of counties in the southern portion of the shale where drilling is most prolific. The 11 deaths are nearly a third of the 35 completed OSHA fatality investigations in Texas for the oil and gas industry since 2009.
The actual death toll most likely is higher, because OSHA's open investigations for recent accidents aren't available to the public. That makes it difficult to tell how many workers died last year, when drilling permits in the region skyrocketed to more than 4,100.
OSHA hasn't hired more inspectors to keep up with the upswing in drilling. Rivera oversees 10 compliance officers responsible for inspecting all types of businesses in a 30-county swath of South Texas. He's not openly complaining about a lack of resources, but the number of inspectors has remained the same since the discovery of the Eagle Ford Shale play in October 2008.
OSHA doesn't investigate transportation accidents on public roads, which killed 40 oil and gas workers in Texas from 2009 to 2011.
The agency focuses on workplace safety. At drilling sites, employees often work long hours under a tremendous sense of urgency around heavy, unforgiving equipment.
Many also work in remote areas, hours away from a hospital. In one case, paramedics faced delays in reaching an injured repairman at a rig site. Three hours after the accident, the worker finally arrived by helicopter at University Hospital in San Antonio. He died in the operating room.
Like many of the fatal accidents, Coastal's penalty of $5,600 for a “serious” OSHA violation was whittled down even further to $3,920. OSHA often agrees to settlements after companies protest, or mitigating factors are taken into account.
Initial fines against all companies for the 11 fatal accidents averaged $10,900 per death. OSHA ultimately agreed to cut penalties by nearly 45 percent to $6,100, records show.
Rivera said the safety of oil and gas workers is a top priority for his office. He acknowledged that some fines might not scare large firms, but added that most companies want to run a safe shop and avoid dealing with an OSHA investigation altogether.
Workplace deaths must be reported to OSHA within eight hours, and the agency investigates every incident. OSHA also requires companies to devise a plan to fix the problems that led to the accident.
“Is it a deterrent?” Rivera asked,Shop for bobblehead dolls from the official NBC Universal Store and build a fun collection for your home or office. referring to the fines. “I would say, if the penalty is not a deterrent, sometimes the violations themselves could be a deterrent to a lot of employers.”

No Fair Comparison Is Possible
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been battling it out with the Apple iPhone 5
for many months and some consumers are still torn between which of the
two handsets they prefer.
The Apple iPhone 5 managed to get some reviews that were duff and some said that Apple had lost their mojo when it came to innovation. On the other hand the Samsung Galaxy S3 received a lot of praise and despite the fact that it has cheap looks it is still selling very well.
The display of the Apple iPhone 5 is 4 inches as opposed to 3.5 inches and this comes with a resolution at 1136 x 640. This does happen to still be smaller than the display of the Samsung Galaxy S3 which is 4.8 inches of Super AMOLED. However it has HD and the ratio is 16:9. The display of the Samsung Galaxy S3 does win though.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is available in six different colours; however it cannot match the weight of the Apple iPhone 5 at 112 grams compared to 133 grams. Consumers prefer a handset to be thinner and so the Apple iPhone 5 is the winner.
For battery you can get around 8 hours of talk time. While the Samsung Galaxy S3 will give you around 15 hours. However in real life you will get around the same from both, as the Apple iPhone 5 looped video showed that both of the devices last around 7.5 hours. The Apple iPhone 5 lasts around 17 minutes more for web browsing and so this means that it has to be a draw.
The chip of the Apple iPhone 5 is the A6 and this does come with an improvement over the A5 chip which is found in the Apple iPhone 4S.Like most of you, I'd seen the broken china mosaic decorated pieces. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with quad core 1.Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a smart card can authenticate your computer usage and data.4GHz chip and it also has 1GB of RAM. In Geekbench tests both handsets were level pegging, with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5 both winning and losing tests.
The Apple iPhone 5 has a camera that happens to be a large improvement over the iPhone 4S and the front camera is able to take videos at 720p. The Samsung Galaxy S3 does have blink and smile protection, along with burst mode, contrast and blurring. However this cannot beat the BSI sensor of the Apple iPhone 5 and this makes Apple the winner.
For connection and storage the handsets come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 also takes SD card up to another 64GB. The handset is also able to charge for USB while the Apple iPhone 5 needs a special charger. The Apple iPhone 5 lacks NFC and MHL and this means that the Samsung Galaxy S3 has the advantage.
The Apple iPhone 5 has iOS6 and this means improvements to the App Store, Siri and support for iCloud. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has Jelly Bean following the update and so this will be a hard choice to make. If you want an OS that is easy to use then it would have to be iOS, however Android is the most customisable. It has to be a draw here.
When it comes down to looks then the winner has to be the Apple iPhone 5 thanks to the aluminium, glass and all the class. This is a category in which the Samsung Galaxy S3 simply cannot compete.

A year ago, Haas was two shots behind going into the final round and wound up winning in a playoff over Mickelson and Keegan Bradley. This time, he has a comfortable margin over U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson and former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, who each thought they did well for a 68.
John Merrick bogeyed the 18th hole for a 70 and joined Simpson and Schwartzel at 9-under 204.
Luke Donald overcame a sloppy start -- three bogeys in a six-hole stretch -- with four birdies on the back nine to salvage a 70 that put him four shots behind, along with Fredrik Jacobson (72).
Mickelson was hopeful of making a move and instead went the other direction. He missed three par putts of about 6 feet on the front nine and had a 72, putting him nine shots behind. Ernie Els, playing with Mickelson, also dropped shots early and dropped out of the hunt with a 73.
The round started with 20 players separated by five shots. Thanks to Haas and his flawless play, only eight players were within five of the lead.
It might not be easy for anyone to catch up to Haas if the sunshine continues to bake Riviera. The fairways were so firm that tee shots were running some 50 yards after they landed, and the greens were firm enough that balls ran out an extra two feet around the hole.
"I had a lot of 3- and 4-footers for par," Simpson said. With superior quality photometers, light meters and a number of other solar light products.
He was pleased with his round of 68 that included only one bogey, but when Simpson pulled out his cellphone to check the leaderboard as he sat down for lunch, he saw Haas on top with a 64.
Most impressive about how Haas has gone around Riviera in the last few days is 40 consecutive holes without a bogey. The last one he made was on Thursday when he missed a 4-foot putt.
"I was just kind of plugging along out there and then all of a sudden, made a nice putt at 9, chip-in at 10, good up-and-down at 11," he said.
His 64 was the best round of a difficult day by three shots, and it was nearly eight shots better than the average score. It put Haas at 12-under 201,Shop for bobblehead dolls from the official NBC Universal Store and build a fun collection for your home or office. leaving him in good position to become only the eighth back-to-back winner in the 76-year history of this tournament.
All he cares about Sunday is winning.

"You've only seen a few guys ever really do that, and those are guys like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson. So I think I've just got to stay in the moment, don't let my emotions get the best of me."

The smart money before the big city derby was all on

And yet Borough matched their visitors for an hour. Indeed they may now be regretting their decision to ignore three kickable penalties in quick succession at the start of the second-half in favour of an attempt to muscle their way over the line.Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a smart card can authenticate your computer usage and data.
Joe Andresen could have kicked all of them - he was two from two on the day - and three points would have put Borough in front for the third time in the match and who knows how a team chasing the Midlands East Division One title would have coped under the pressure.
Instead the Lions survived and eased through their gears in the final quarter to steal a win they deserved, but one that was greater than the real margin between the sides. Skipper Said Sait and centre Jacques Vorster both crossed for tries in that period and both were converted by Jaco Steenberg.
Borough will take consolation from Lions’ failure to score a fourth try which would have yielded a bonus point, but they should also take heart from the pace and power of winger Vernon Horne as well as the drive shown by skipper Pete Kowlakowski from his number eight berth,
“One of our biggest problems all season has been executing from good positions,” Borough coach Andy Phillips admitted. “And that was the case at the start of the second-half. In hindsight we should have kicked the penalty to see how Lions responded.”
Lions finished so strongly it may not have mattered. With superior quality photometers, light meters and a number of other solar light products. They twice trailled to Andresen penalties early in the game, but Max Guseinov barged over for a try and Steenberg kicked a penalty to give the visitors an 8-6 half-time lead.
It was soon obvious that a fine windless, dry day for rugby wasn’t going to produce a classic though. There were more spills than thrills and all the aggression arrived in the guise of honest commitment.
There was a late red card for Borough wing Adam Peel, but only for two technical offences at the breakdown rather than for any violent play. Lions lost Alan O’Connor to the sin bin early in the second-half, again for slowing the play down illegally as Borough pressed for a try.
The referee didn’t seem to impress either camp and his portly figure and little legs would have looked more at home in a Dickens novel rather than a rugby field, but his apparent inconsistency didn’t influence the result.
Even the pre-match Lions’ concern of intimidation from a sizeable home crowd didn’t materialise. There was a human foghorn at the back of the Borough grandstand, but he was largely good-natured, while the Lions supporters only found their voice late on whan victory looked assured.
The teams are presumably capable of providing a much better quality of derby, but unfortunately they may not get the chance for a while as they look like going their separate ways.

Scarier Than Freddy Krueger
I’M used to horror. I’m the father of Freddy Krueger, for Pete’s
sake. But the horror of retirement? I didn’t see that one coming at
all.Have a look at all our custom bobbleheads models starting at 59.90US$ with free proofing.
I haven’t actually retired, but my wife, Iya, would just as soon I did.
In the past three years we made two brutally difficult films back to back, with her producing and me directing, and we’re both thoroughly wrung out. So retirement is tempting — in a way. Plus, our new house is nearing completion on Martha’s Vineyard, a place that we knew, even if we didn’t say it outright, we could make our final stand.
But that might be years from now.Bay State Cable Ties is a full line manufacturer of nylon cable ties and related products. Or...maybe sooner. I am 73, an age you see in obituaries a lot. Maybe it’s just conductors who live into their 90s.
So Iya and I decided to take the summer off, move in to our cool new digs and forget the insanity of the film business. The plan was to relax, really relax, maybe for the first time in more than 40 years of filmmaking.
Iya seemed happier as soon as we resolved to do it, and “happy wife, happy life” is a mantra it seems unwise to ignore. Trial retirement made sense all around.
We started hanging out with everyone we knew but had never had time to hang out with before. Fun, interesting people,Totech Americas delivers a wide range of drycabinets for applications spanning electronics. almost none of whom had seen a single movie I’d ever made. I built a woodworking shop in the basement. It was fun. Iya and I went for walks, read books, watched movies — we even had our kids and grandkids out for a weeklong visit in August. It was wonderful. And we had the Vespa Iya had given me for my 70th birthday shipped out from California. Ah, tooling around the island on a Vespa. Perfection!
I used to ride a motorcycle in the ’60s, so I was no stranger to two-wheeled transportation. But a scooter is a different animal. The Vespa manual strongly advised against off-road driving, but half the roads in the Vineyard are dirt. Soft sand, gravel, rocks — the kind of stuff the manual advises riders to avoid.
I was very cautious the day we took friends up to see the new house. Ten miles an hour on the Vespa, and doing just fine on the dirt road leading to our house. But suddenly the front wheel hit soft sand. The back end skidded off the road, throwing me sideways.A ridiculously low price on this All-Purpose solar lantern by Gordon. Hanging on, I inadvertently gave it the gas. (Funny place for an accelerator — on the handlebars.) I took a quick glimpse at the road’s steeply rising shoulder and the boulder at its top. The next thing I remember was finding my face planted on the far side of the road. I was wearing a helmet and all that, so by the time Iya and our friends ran up, I was up and righting the scooter, feeling nothing more than embarrassment.
“I’m fine,” I muttered. “No you’re not!” Iya cried, pointing to the blood gushing from my cuff like rain from a downspout. I lifted my pant leg. And we all gasped: there was a gash the size of a coat pocket and something gray and gory sticking out from inside my leg. It looked like a shot in one of my movies.
Turns out, somewhere in those missing seconds the bike put its kickstand through my calf, splitting the muscle sheath. That’s what was poking out. There was a good surgeon at the hospital, and after a rather intense session of stitching, he had me on my feet again. Or at least on crutches.
I asked him how many stitches, and he said he’d stopped counting after an hour.
Well, talk about tipping points. My retirement tipped me right over the cliff. And the left leg with all the stitches wasn’t much good holding me up, which put a lot of strain on my right knee, which was kind of in bad shape on its own. I’d been ignoring getting a torn meniscus fixed for years because, well, there was work to be had and I love to direct.
But since we were now retired, sort of, it seemed wise to have the knee checked out. Off to New York to the Hospital for Special Surgery. Total Knee Replacement. Check it out on YouTube. Interestingly, it’s one subsection of drawing and quartering that has survived into the modern age. Before I knew it, I was walking around (on a walker) with a titanium and plastic knee, and another huge scar.
Now retirement meant being unable to walk better than Quasimodo, and feeling as if I’d been jumped by the Oakland Raiders twice, once for good measure.
I SETTLED down to watching movies, except the television was on the lower level of the house and one day I was carrying things in both hands going down the stairs when I slipped. Crash, right on my butt, then down to the bottom of the stairs like a crash test dummy. Back to H.S.S. Cracked pelvis. No use operating, just take it even easier. Unless you want hip replacement? No, thank you!
Now, 13 months later, I’m back on my own feet and ready to stop relaxing. It’s too dangerous.
“Trial retirement” had a nice ring to it, but it ended up feeling like the Liberty Bell hit me in the head.
Give me the insanity of impossible schedules, screaming studio heads, script pages never showing up until the morning we’re to shoot them — anything but the horrors of retirement. These are scarier than any horror movie I can dream up.

Brainwashing is the job of parents
As homeschooling parents, my husband and I often find ourselves the
target of self-appointed critics who take exception to our militant
insistence that our children are best educated at home. Some of the most
comical criticism we receive (besides the obligatory “socialization”
question) is that we’re “brainwashing” our kids.
So what, precisely, IS “brainwashing”? The term apparently originated from the Chinese methods of coercive persuasion used under the Maoist regime, which aimed to transform individuals into “right-thinking” members of the new Chinese social system. Keep this in mind.
A couple years ago I received an email from a progressive reader who stated, among other things, that he was “disgusted by evangelical Christian homeschooling parents who brainwash their kids into being just as ignorant, narrow-minded, intolerant and self-righteous as they are. … This kind of brainwashing is nothing short of child abuse. Mental, not physical.”
This person further indicated that all children – without exception – should be enrolled in public schools in order to shape their beliefs in accordance with current “acceptable” standards, including moral relativism,Totech Americas delivers a wide range of drycabinets for applications spanning electronics. diversity, revised history, socialism and full accessibility to reproductive health services. It doesn’t matter what the parents think. ALL kids need a public school education to shape their minds in compliance with progressive ideology.
What my critic refuses to grasp is how horrifically intrusive this is for parents who don’t want that for their kids. Homeschooling parents knew darned good and well that if they were forced to surrender their tender young offspring to the clutches of the public schools for eight hours a day, the children they cherish would be indoctrinated with beliefs that contradicts theirs. So, rather than futilely agitating to change the system, they did the next best thing: They quietly withdrew their children from school to teach them at home and asked only to be left alone, free from government interference and control.
Consider some of the issues parents are now facing with regard to government schools. In Connecticut, a proposed bill would require mandatory mental-health assessments of all public and homeschooled children. In a suburban Nashville, Tenn., elementary school, parents are furious at a new policy that restricts them from eating lunch with their own children more than twice in a nine-week period. In Texas, parents are up in arms about a one-size-fits-all curriculum called CSCOPE, the questionable contents of which – I’m not kidding – were until recently kept secret. And this doesn’t even begin to touch on the nutrition Nazis who dictate what your children can and cannot eat.We have become one of the worlds most recognised Ventilation system brands.
All these tactics are geared toward a single goal: uniformity of thought and behavior in accordance with the state. Dissidents are viewed with hostility. No diversity of opinion or belief is tolerated. But progressives won’t call this brainwashing because they approve of it. The only “correct” viewpoints are theirs.
As a result, public schools have abandoned any pretense of academic excellence and are instead concentrating their considerable clout on pushing for uniform criteria and state-approved socialization for all children. Everyone knows the best education comes from full immersion, which accounts for the efforts to limit parental influence in school. Much of the hostility toward homeschoolers stems from their refusal to conform to state-sanctioned socialization requirements.
In a 2004 essay entitled “What is Progressive Education?” Wayne Dunn notes, “Certainly parents want their children to know how to communicate and cooperate with others, in other words, to be sociable.Have a look at all our custom bobbleheads models starting at 59.90US$ with free proofing. But that is not the legitimate purpose of education. Why not? Because communication is valuable only if one possesses mental content worth communicating. Cooperation is valuable only if the one you’re cooperating with is rational. Thus, thinking skills and a command of facts are the essentials of education. Otherwise a student would be unable to distinguish the communication of a Ben Franklin from that of an Adolf Hitler, and would be as likely to cooperate with one as the other. … The socialization mongers are busily sacrificing kids’ minds for the sake of society. And evidence is amassing of just how nonsensical – and dangerous – that is.” [Emphasis added.A ridiculously low price on this All-Purpose solar lantern by Gordon.]
This emphasis on socialization to the detriment of critical-thinking skills dovetails well with proposed mandatory mental health assessments, which, according to a Connecticut homeschooling father, will “measure and record [a] child’s level of compliance with State-sanctioned norms of behavior, thereby producing a body of evidence for intervention should non-compliance be found.” (Who defines non-compliance?)
So why the hostility toward homeschoolers? Why not just leave them alone? Why the unfounded accusations about socialization, academic standards and the ever-popular “brainwashing”?
It’s because homeschoolers are proving their methods produce intelligent, educated, polite and well-adjusted children whose family values remain intact. This threatens the agenda of the state-sanctioned monopoly.
What if the state-sanctioned norms of behavior contradict parental values? What if the state says guns are evil, but the parents are hunters? What if the state says abortions are no big deal, but the parents believe it’s murder? What if the state prefers revisionist history, but parents want their children taught the truth?
And what happens to public school kids? These children are “brainwashed” to discard the beliefs of their parents and embrace the one-size-fits-all Marxist philosophy currently in vogue. But somehow that’s OK.Bay State Cable Ties is a full line manufacturer of nylon cable ties and related products. The state says so.
Now go back to the original intent of brainwashing: coercive persuasion used under the Maoist regime, which aimed to transform individuals into “right-thinking” members of the new social system. So tell me, who is brainwashing whom?
What it all comes down to is control. The state wants control of children in order to mold them according to its agenda. Parents want control of their children in order to raise them in accordance with their beliefs. What progressives refuse to admit is children belong to their parents, not the state. If parents want to “brainwash” their children, it’s their business because they are their children.
There is a reason education is not mentioned in the founding documents as a federal matter. Education in the hands of the government is a dangerous thing, and there are endless tragic historical examples to demonstrate this.

Pamlico taxidermist debuts
When Page Nethercutt was 8, he used the skills he learned from his
taxidermist father Gerald to enter a squirrel in a school science fair.
He won a blue ribbon, but not the overall best of show.
He didn’t consider it the end of his world and continued to hone his skills.
Nethercutt, now 41, is not sure whatever became of the science fair winner, but television viewers will have the chance Thursday to see his vision of a real “End of the World” moment in nature when he is featured on a new AMC series entitled “The Immortalizer.”
Nethercutt, who took over his father’s business and reopened it as Moore Swamp Taxidermy in Pamlico County in 1994, is one of four taxidermist chosen for the eight-part reality show.
“The basis of the show is a competition between what they called ‘The Immortalizer,’ who they consider their master taxidermist versus a challenger,” he said.
He was first approached by the network more than a year ago and after four days of filming at his shop and more production time in Hollywood, he is The Immortalizer in the Thursday episode. The filming included Nethercutt working on the piece, interviews and some scenes of him and his family around their beehives and aviary on Moore Swamp Road near Reelsboro.
Last week, he attended a huge press party in New York City.
Nethercutt will be featured in two of the eight shows. Contractually, he can only talk about the first show with the quail and bobcat, set in a southwest United States scene. It includes a small habitat.
“It is something you add to represent the natural ground effects — dirt, trees and bushes — for color, wind turbine to give it an artsy flow,” he said. “We want to see circles in the piece so that as your eye looks at the animal,The stone mosaic series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics. it moves around to another point and back to the animal.”

The bobcat’s jaws are wide open, with the quail’s wing is slapping his whiskers, making that side of the cat’s face squint, with one eye half-closed.
“This is a split-second in time,” Nethercutt said. “This is a predator-prey scene.”
He decided not to go with traditionally mass-produced pedestals for the scene, instead commissioning Bayboro cabinet maker Steve Ballenger, who hand-selected the wood to match the colors of the animal and bird.
The piece is the property of AMC and is still in Hollywood, although it will be returned. But, Nethercutt cannot sell or give it away.
“We’ll find a place to put it,” he said of his shop showroom, which features his personal collection of birds and animals. At home, he and his wife Bonnie have 98 more mounts.

Making the sounds of silents
The film historian David Thomson has heard Alloy Orchestra accompany
silent films on several occasions. The most recent was at the San
Francisco Silent Film Festival,The stone mosaic series is a grand collection of coordinating Travertine mosaics. for “Metropolis.”
Fritz Lang’s classic was the first score the Alloys did. That was 23 years ago. They’ve since done nearly two dozen other features — epics and slapstick and even documentaries — and numerous shorts.
“Metropolis” remains their “bread and butter,” said percussionist-accordionist Terry Donahue, 51, in a joint interview earlier this month at the East Cambridge-based trio’s rehearsal space. The other members are percussionist-clarinetist Ken Winokur,Source crystal mosaic Products at Mosaics. 58, and keyboardist Roger C. Miller,We offers custom Injection Mold parts in as fast as 1 day. 59, who when not Alloying is guitarist of Mission of Burma. Winokur estimates they’ve performed the “Metropolis” score 400 to 500 times.
Thomson, recalling that San Francisco performance, wrote in an e-mail, “The film had never been as crazy or compelling, and a lot of that was due to the live music by and from the Alloy Orchestra. It was so exciting I think Lang’s monocle would have popped out.”
Stripped to their barest of bones, the plots of many of Alfred Hitchcock's films are about an ordinary person thrust into extraordinary situations. While a Jedi Padawan is hardly an ordinary person, Ahsoka Tano is the closest thing The Clone Wars has to that sort of a character type. Across one movie and five seasons, the show's intended audience has grown up with her, watched her become a confident Jedi, and has come to relate to her. In the same way that Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart's were sophisticated movie actors who were still believable as regular people in Hitchcock's films, Ahsoka's image is one of both a competent Jedi and the audience surrogate in the narrative.
In "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much," Ahsoka found herself in a Hitchcockian situation of being set up for the murder of Letta, the woman who fed her husband the explosive nano-bots that blew up the Jedi Temple hangar last week. Since clones were killed in the explosion, Palpatine decreed that it was a military issue, not a Jedi one, and placed Tarkin in charge of the matter. The change in jurisdictional control was likely a three-pronged decision: The first, as Tarkin explained, is that Palpatine is seeking to further remove the Jedi from military matters, because they are peacekeepers, not warriors. The second, wind turbine and this is me theorizing, is that Palpatine's looking for another way to discredit the Jedi, and the murder of bombing suspect by a Jedi would certainly fit into that mold. I'll get to that third prong in just a moment.
Compared to Grant and Stewart's characters, though, Ahsoka is at a disadvantage, one that those older characters never really had to worry about. The conventions of classic Hollywood cinema being what they were, the fate of the protagonist was never really in doubt. He would break up the spy ring, clear his name, and get the girl (provided he didn't already have her). So while he'd be in danger, and it would be thrilling and suspenseful, the outcome was always a sure thing.
But ever since she made her debut, Ahsoka's fate has never been a sure thing. Does she die? Does she turn to the dark side? Does she simply go into exile at some point? This arc seems primed to test the possibilities of what could happen to Ahsoka now that she's on the run from the Jedi Council and the military in an effort to clear her name. Certainly the evidence is stacked against her, from her rant about Letta's guilt and desire for revenge in front of Anakin, Tarkin, and Barriss to the holocam footage that made it look like she was Force-choking Letta to all the dead or injured clones in the prison. Like any good Hitchcockian hero, Ahsoka will likely end up traveling long distances and making unlikely alliances in an effort to acquit herself. But unlike those heroes, it's tough to know how exactly how it will all end.
And there's still the matter of the third prong. This one, like the second, is just a theory, but here goes: Given Palpatine's careful orchestration of everything so far, I would not be at all surprised if he's had this in the works for some time, and considers Ahsoka's fall from favor within the Jedi Order—whether by discreditation, turning to the dark side, or getting trapped in a web of convincing evidence—as another step in his plan to turn Anakin against the Order. Losing an apprentice you knew to be innocent would be one thing, but to have the very institution you serve doubt that innocence? Anakin would not be pleased with that at all.

And members of the Brookings Public Art Committee were elated to learn the bears could come back to town — this time for good.
City officials here have been pondering how to get some of the bears, be it by another “visit,” purchase, or even buying the mold used to cast them. Evergreen no longer uses a mold; it’s cost prohibitive.

Other ideas could involve using them in fundraising events or just allowing the bears to be integral pieces of public art. All that needs to be discussed, Vierra said.
“We’re really happy Brookings enjoys the bears,” she said. “That’s what’s great about Brookings. It’s a really tight community; the bears would be good there.”
The city council heard occasional mentions of the bears since they left, but it wasn’t until Kelly McClain was appointed to council and suggested – repeatedly – that the city pursue bringing the ursine beasts back to town. He believes it would be a big plus for tourism.

We get all this free traffic; all we have to do is captivate them.”
