You need to let your house vent a little

Think of the frame as its “bones” and the siding as its skin. Water, electricity and gas course through its “veins” of pipes and wires. The house’s lung is the entire room space within it.We accept foreigners from around the world to study china kung fu under Shaolin Masters!

Older houses may have been made a little health-ier than some of the tightly built or prefab buildings of today. Older houses seemed to “breathe” on their own, which is why in old suspense movies you can hear the creepy old mansion creak and moan as the wind howls outside. It wasn’t, admittedly, the most energy efficient of conditions, and many homes today have sealed up all of those air leaks… causing a whole new problem. How to do china shaolin kung fu Level 2 ?china shaolin kung fu

With today’s improved building materials and precise and seamless windows and doors, your home can be practically an airtight chamber. It’s more important than ever, then, that it have portals that allow a little air both in and out.

There’s the laundry vent that takes the hot air from your dryer and sends it out of doors. There are vents at the gables of your house, and sometime a ridge vent at the peak of the roof and soffit vents under the roofs overhang; all help get air into your attic.

When all of these vents are working correctly your house breathes easily and deeply, with no coughs or build-up of mold and mildew to congest its lungs.

You won’t find do-it-yourself venting advice in this article. Instead, join us for a virtual tour of your home systems that might allow you to catch a small problem before it grows into a large one.

Let’s start with the extractor vent, more commonly referred to as a stove vent. Most homes still have stove tops against a wall, although of late center islands in the middle of big kitchens have become popular; in those cases, unless you have an industri-al style vent over the island, the steam made while cooking just escapes into the air. But most of us still have the conventional range with a vent/fan/light combo. The vent should go to the outside, but some-times the contractor did it on the cheap and even though the steam is drawn away by the fan, it really doesn’t escape from the house. Even worse, the vent just goes into the attic.

The most important thing to check on either sys-tem is the filters that collect the greasy vapors. Every month those screens should be removed and cleaned to stop grease build-up that is dirty at best, and a prelude to a grease fire at worst. A warm soap and water bath and they should be as good as new.

Next is the laundry vent. Your clothes dryer needs to vent the warm, moist air that is generated during the drying process. The back of your dryer has a vent opening and in most cases a plastic or metal vent hose around six inches in diameter attaches and snakes its way either out the wall directly behind the machine or up into the ceiling. It’s very impor-tant in the latter case that the vent pipe does eventu-ally go to an outside vent, for pumping moist hot air into your attic will surely cause a mold problem or fire hazard. The vent hose also gets a little of the excess lint that the lint screen didn’t capture.

Insurance companies say that 15,000 dryer fires oc-cur each year, so making sure this system is working properly is very important. It’s also a good idea to do your drying while you are at home. People who throw their laundry in the machine, start it up and leave for work or to run errands may come home to find the fire department in their driveway.
